Intimate or personal issues can be more difficult for people to seek help for and talk about but are surprisingly common in both men and women. At the Ruislip Hypnotherapy Clinic you can rest assured that sexual problems are commonly treated and are always dealt with in a sensitive and professional way.
Shy Bladder is a fairly condition which can affect both men and women, and where the sufferer is unable to urinate in the (real or imaginary) presence of others, such as in a public toilet.
It is an anxiety based condition used to be listed under the category of Social Phobia, but it is now preferred to refer to paruresis as a Social Anxiety Disorder. The condition is also known by a number of other names including "avoidant paruresis", "shy bladder syndrome" and "pee shyness" and "bashful bladder syndrome". It is sometimes grouped along with other conditions under the term "toilet phobia".
Shy pee syndrome goes beyond simple shyness, embarrassment, or desire for privacy in that it is more severe and often causes unnecessary inconvenience, because the inability to urinate in public, although psychological in origin, is physical in its effect, and not under the control of the sufferer.
Although most sufferers report that they developed the condition in their teenage years, it can strike at any age. Paruresis can be mild, moderate or severe. In mild cases, paruresis is an occasional happening, like a form of performance anxiety. Severe cases of this disorder can have highly restricting effects on a person's life. Severe sufferers may not be willing to travel far from their home. Others are unable to urinate even in their own home if someone else can be heard to be there.
What are the symptoms?
• Being afraid or unable to urinate when others are nearby.
• Sufferers worry that someone might knock on the toilet door, or see or hear them urinating, or be waiting patiently outside.
• Feelings of anxiety, anger, and body shyness in provoking situations. These emotions lead to contraction of the internal and external urethral sphincters (circular muscles that voluntarily and involuntarily restrict the flow of urine), both of which must be relaxed for urination.
• Avoidant paruresis usually occurs when using public toilet facilities, including those on trains, buses, boats and planes.
• Embarrassment about peeing can occur when asked to produce a specimen for a medical examination.
• The condition can also occur at home when there are other people in the house, irrespective of whether or not they are in the bathroom.
• The difficulty disappears if sufferers are certain that no one is around or likely to arrive.
Why Hypnoanalysis is so successful at treating Shy Bladder Syndrome
Hypnoanalysis - a very special type of hypnotherapy - is one of the best methods in the world for treating emotional, psychological or anxiety-related problems. It is a uniquely successful therapy which allows the client to resolve the very root cause of their problem, helping them to change their lives significantly in a short space of time. Analytical therapy is used to discover the cause of the problems to allow an emotional release. The emotion once released will take with it its symptoms.
Hypnoanalysis is different to counselling. All symptoms have an originating cause and I create a safe, trusting, non-judgmental and confidential space to help you to resolve the emotions that are causing this problem in your life.
