What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis can best be described as state of profound physical and mental relaxation, during which we become inwardly focused, aware of our immediate reality but with a comfortable sense of detachment from it: a wonderful, calm and relaxed state. You are fully awake and alert whilst in hypnosis, and NOT under anyones power or influence - regardless of what you may seen on television!
Nearly all of us have experienced a trance-like state many times. Have you ever caught yourself daydreaming and not noticed things happening around you? Or you may have been driving or on a train journey and missed your exit or stop. These trance-like states are just self hypnosis.
Hypnosis per se doesn't actually achieve anything: it's what happens when you are in that wonderful, relaxed state that creates the amazing results.....
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy involves the use of psychotherapy and/or other therapeutic techniques in association with hypnosis, in order to create positive change. It is a natural, effective way of making contact with the 'subconscious self', a source of many of our problems and well as a tremendous reservior of untapped potential strength and knowledge.
Pure Hypnoanalysis
Pure Hypnoanalysis (sometimes just called 'hypnoanalysis' or 'hypno-analysis') is used get to the root cause of the problem and can resolve the symptoms completely and permanently.
I believe pure hypnoanalysis (the way IAH Members practise it) to be the most effective and quickest form of psychotherapy / hypnotherapy available today for almost all psychological, emotional and stress-related symptoms, as well as physical ones: The mind and the body are inextricably linked. What impacts the mind can also affect the body, making hypnotherapy an excellent choice for unwanted somatic (bodily) symptoms such as IBS, eczema and asthma.
Whatever your presenting problem is, it's likely that it originated and is being maintained by locked-in emotions in your subconscious mind. These emotions are attached to an experience from our younger years when our minds and emotions are still immature and we don't have the coping mechanisms to deal with problems in the way that we are able to as adults. These locked away emotions are like a form of energy buzzing around in the unconscious mind causing us anxiety. This can manifest as a phobia, panic attacks, problems in our sex lives, social anxiety and really any kind of negative emotion including guilt, worry and depression.
Because your mind has bottled up these intense emotions and experiences, you will have no conscious awareness of either them or the incident that caused it. Your mind can create a phobia - an outward projection for the negative feelings - something that symbolises the original experience. In fact, most phobias are not even related to the actual cause of the emotion, they are only symbolic of it.
If you find that hard to comprehend, most people believe in the theory that if you have a phobia of dogs, then you must have been bitten by a dog. How would you explain, why there are 12 million people in the UK with a phobia of flying - I'm sure very very few of those have been involved in an aircraft emergency or even crash. Surely it would make more sense if there were more people with a fear of driving in cars - which statistically is much more dangerous. The answer is that with the majority of them, the fear is not with flying, crashing or being blown up, the actual fear is being out of control - which their brain has symbolically projected on to flying.
How else can one explain less common phobias such as fear of a mother-in-law (Pentheraphobia), Phonemophobia (fear of thinking), fear of the colour purple (Porphyrophobia) or even baked beans phobia (Heinzophobia....ok, i made that name up!)
People often try to deal with these uncomfortable feelings by forms of escapism such as smoking, binge drinking or over-eating. Or they may result in avoidance behaviours, such as avoiding the company of others if you have social phobia, or avoiding going out if you have a fear of travelling in confined spaces. The unconscious mind will just keep on trying to get rid of these emotions as it just wants you to be well. Unfortunately, it doesn't work - the only way to remove these emotions is to release them by bringing them into conscious awareness. Once they are gone, they are gone for good and you will have a lasting release from your symptoms.
And if that sounds too good to be true - it really isn't! Hypnoanalysis is an amazing therapy which has transformed many thousands of peoples lives. Of course, you will still have to deal with the problems and stresses of everyday life, but you will be much more able to cope with them without this unconscious anxiety adding to your load.
What happens during a session?
Pure Hypnoanalysis relies upon a safe, trusting and confidential environment with good rapport between the therapist and client, which builds as the weeks go on. Relaxation in the form of gentle hypnosis is used to relax the client and still their mind. Then a very simple process of 'Free Association' is used whereby they allow experiences from their life to spring freely into their mind - without searching, and without analysing. That's my job! As the sessions go on, we get closer and closer to the source of the anxiety, until it finally comes to the surface and you're left with a wonderful sense of relief, like a huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders. The sufferer becomes free of their symptoms for life!
It doesn't rely on, 'fishing techniques', regression techniques' or any other 'invasive' techniques in order to work effectively.
A course of pure hypnoanalysis usually only takes 8-10 weekly sessions lasting about an hour each, @ £65 a session
Suggestion Therapy
Suggestion Therapy (sometimes called 'clinical hypnosis') is used for easy-to-control, less complex problems, where the original reason for starting the symptom has disappeared, such as smoking, nail-biting, pre-test nerves, relaxation, confidence boosting, performance improvement, etc.
It can also be used for some other problems such as tinnitus and bed wetting. You are relaxed into a very nice, calm, relaxed state, and while you are in that state, you are given suggestions that your symptoms will disappear.
It is successful because it works with the client's own willpower, by making strong, positive suggestions about whatever the client would like to become or achieve.
Suggestion therapy usually only requires between one and three sessions @ £75 each
