Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by recurrent binge eating (bingeing), followed by compensatory behaviors such as self-induced vomiting or using laxatives (purging), fasting, enemas, diuretics or over-exercising.

This is usually done in secret. People with bulimia purge themselves because they feel guilty about binge eating, but the bingeing is a compulsive act that they feel they cannot control.

Bulimia comes from a Greek word meaning 'ravenous hunger' and is commonly mis-spelt 'bullimia' or 'bulemia' or 'bullemia'.

Who is affected by bulimia?

Bulimia can affect both men and women but, statistically, women are 10 times more likely to develop bulimia than men. Recent studies suggest that around eight in every 100 women will have bulimia at some point in their lives. However, sufferers are often ashamed or embarrassed by having the condition so I would suggest the correct figure to exceed that.

The condition can occur at any age but it often starts around the age of 19. Bulimia can also affect children, but this is uncommon.

Dear Cara. You have made my life feel lighter and brighter. Thank you. This journey ended with a revelation that has lifted a weight from my life. I have a different appreciation that has allowed me to change my daily life and I am now enjoying healthier, happier and less stressful living.

It feels like a privilege to unlock this understanding in my life, an exploration I often find myself recommending to others with any kind of life-affecting problem. It was an invaluable experience and insight to my life, I am so grateful.

The connection between bulimia and self esteem

For many of my clients, their self esteem hinges on how attractive they look and how slim they feel. They feel that by being in control of their weight they are more in control of how others perceive them, value them and like/love them. However, very often, feelings of low self worth, feeling ugly, feeling 'not good enough' come from within; these feelings come from an inner unrest, but are being projected onto how they they look.

They blame how they feel on their weight, when really, the negative feelings are already there, but are made worse by binge eating. Although the symptoms of Bullimia and binge eating are about the control of food intake, the disorder actually exists because of negative feelings and emotions that are locked up inside.

Bulimia responds really well to hypnoanalysis, and you can be fairly certain of a resolution after just 6-10 sessions.

For the treatment of bulimia and other eating disorders, I use a highly effective technique which is fast and safe - it is called Pure Hypnoanalysis.

Why Pure Hypnoanalysis - an amazing treatment for Binge Eating and Bulimia

The anxiety behind bulimia and eating disorders is almost always formed in childhood (though the symptoms may not appear for many years) and are caused by the sufferer bottling up some strong emotions, and those emotions being projected onto an object/situation.

These bottled up emotions are locked away in the depths of the persons subconscious mind. Most other types of therapy cannot gain access to these 'locked away' emotions and experiences, whereas pure hypnoanalysis can.

The process of Pure Hypnoanalysis requires a strong bond of trust and rapport being created between the therapist, and the client. Over a period of about 6-10 sessions, we slowly link thoughts and memories back through time (using a process of 'free association') until we come to the bottled up emotions. When we release these emotions, the symptoms are resolved forever and the client feels happier, more relaxed and more confident and that a weight has been lifted from their shoulders.
